The Black Hills!

One of the many Wall Drug signs along the way
The License Plate Game!  We got 45 out of 50.  Not too bad eh?
First Stop: The Badlands
Not entirely sure it was legal...but we climbed, hiked, slipped and slid.  It was like we had the place to ourselves...
Look at the scale!
Wild flowers, purple, white, yellow...
So peaceful
Sunset colors within the hills
WALL DRUG!  Matt's first time...my 5 or so...and it never gets old.
5 cent coffee and world famous donuts
This cowboy put his arm around me.  Matt challenged him to a shootout.
Then Matt got a shoulder massage from a gigantic bunny
Jackalope!
Then this happend...
Then that happened...
That evening we drove to Mount Rushmore
I found Minnesota.  1858...great year
Matt found Pennsylvania...and bragged it up that PA beat MN.
Proof we were there!
Matt fits right in!
That evening we decided to stay for the very first summer evening presentation of MT Rushmore.  We waited in the misty rain through a long winded speaker, and then a so-so educational video montage...and then at 9:30 they turned on the flood lights!
And this is all we saw:  Glorious Presidential Fog!
The next morning we got up early and drove to Jewel Cave.  So glad that we had made reservations ahead of time - the entire day of tours was sold out with in the time that we were there!
Matt in the Cave
Then it was off to Custer State Park...more fog...
Uh-OH! Burrows!
Oh No!
My only thought: "Please Don't Sneeze!"
Well Behaved Buffalo
Needles Highway...way up in the clouds.  Look at how tiny I look at the bottom of the picture.

Then we went to Crazy Horse
Glorious Native American Fog...
Can't see it.

Then we fell into a tourist trap called the Cosmos Mystery Area and stood on the walls.
Topsy turvy Matt

The next morning it was one more Wall Drug Donut and then the long ride home.  A wonderful weekend!

That looked like so much fun! It was especially fun for me because I've been there so many times!
